Genital herpes which caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV) is better to be diagnosed when the infection is still active. The primary infection of genital herpes happens to us who have not been infected before. Then, knowing then symptoms of genital herpes will help much in diagnose the infection.
A primary infection of genital herpes will show some symptoms. One of the symptoms can be a painful red blisters. The blisters usually occur on external genital area, rectums, thighs, or buttocks. After that, the blister will cause ulcer on those area. For women, the blisters and the ulcers may appear on cervix. They also will have unusual vaginal discharge. Other symptom may cause pain when we are urinating. Fever and feeling unwell will happen because our body is trying to fight the virus. The symptoms of primary infection will disappear after 20 days. The ulcers will heal without leaving any scars.
When we have those symptoms above, we allow worrying that we may have a primary infection of genital herpes. The first thing to do when we get those symptoms is visiting doctor the sooner the better when the infection is still active. We better to see a specialist in genital urinary. We may have to take some test there by taking a swab and fluid sample. We also should know if the swab result is negative for HSV, the genital herpes infection still can happen.
The cause of herpes simplex virus happens because we have contact with the virus. The virus can spread through skin contact. For genital herpes, sex activity such as vaginal, anal or oral sex can be the cause of the genital herpes infection. Besides spreading, the virus is also contagious. Therefore, for primary infection, knowing sooner will help.
The medical treatment for primary infection of genital herpes usually uses anti-viral such as acyclovir. When we have diagnosed by a genital herpes, we usually should take acyclovir five times a day for five days or more. That medicine will cause the virus to not multiplying.
Besides doing the medical treatment, curing genital herpes should be combined with self help. We may need painkiller to ease the pain. Besides that, we should make the genital area stay clean and dry. We can take salt water in cleaning it to help in preventing the virus spreads. Then, we can apply Vaseline or similar ointment to blisters and ulcers to prevent them in popping and the liquid spreads. We also should drink more water to lower the pain while urinating. We are not suggested to wear tight clothing that will cause irritation. Then, we should not use other people towels or clothes. We do not want the virus to spread more. Sexual intercourse should not be done while having the infection.
